A PLAN to shape future use of foreshore areas across the Redcliffe Peninsula has drawn interest from residents and businesses keen to have their say, with many supporting water-based attractions.

Moreton Bay Regional Council has invited planning and design consultants to prepare a masterplan for the Redcliffe foreshore, which aims to grow and develop its economic potential.

A tender will be appointed in mid-October and will conduct consultation.

Readers on the Herald’s Facebook page supported an inflatable water park. Other suggestions included wheelchair access to beaches, a coffee or ice cream stall at the end of the jetty, a second lagoon, stand-up paddle boarding, putt putt and a live entertainment venue.

Mayor Allan Sutherland said a growing number of commercial operators were keen to establish businesses and the masterplan would help shape how the area would be used, while establishing a transparent approval framework.

Commerce and Industry Redcliffe Peninsula president Nick Tzimas said beautification, a mini waterslide, a medium-sized marina and more parking were needed in the area from Elizabeth Ave to Victoria Ave at Clontarf.

He also said a medium-sized marina near the Redcliffe Jetty was worth pursuing as well as floating water infrastructure at Margate and Scarborough.

Redcliffe City Chamber of Commerce president Ryan Elson said: “While we applaud the council for looking at ways to improve the foreshore, we feel there seems to be no plan for the economic and cultural needs for the Peninsula.

“We feel that the Redcliffe Peninsula should be the epicentre for maritime activities, industry and education for southeast Queensland.”

A Moreton Bay Regional Council spokeswoman said the council would also pass on comments made by readers on the Herald’s facebook page to the consultant for consideration during planning.
