A Moreton man who dragged a woman to a cricket clubhouse and sexually assualted her has returned to court while on a suspended sentence.

Joshawa Eric Lyle Kane from Burpengary faced Redcliffe Magistrate Court this morning ( September 5) charged with wilful damage.

The court heard that at 1am on July 1, Kane punched a gaming machine at the Deception Bay Tavern, smashing it.

Staff obtained Kane’s licence details and reported the matter to police.

When police spoke to Kane at a Burpengary home on August 23 he said he punched the machine as he believed someone cashed out winnings he had made on the machine — $340 from a $50 bet.

Kane committed this offence while serving an 18-month suspended sentence after he ambushed, dragged through a park and sexually assulated a 22-year-old woman in Dakabin on November 15, 2020.

On April 19 this year Kane was sentenced to 18 months’ jail for that incident, immediately suspended for three years.

CCTV had captured Kane carrying the woman underneath a cricket clubhouse as she tried to escape.

Kane, a spray painter since he was 17, told Magistrate Paul Byrne he had worked on Dakabin station and Moreton Daily Stadium.

Kane said it was stupidity which caused him to lash out on the gaming machine.

Kane was convicted and fined $400 for smashing the gaming machine.

Mr Byrne recommitted Kane to Brisbane District Court for a future date, due to the breach of his suspended sentence.
