A Moreton Bay carpenter with a history of addiction issues has been jailed for aggravated possession of methamphetamine.

Burpengary man Guy Evison, 30, pleaded guilty in Brisbane Supreme Court on Tuesday to a single count of aggravated possession of methamphetamine, defined under Queensland legislation as being greater than 2g.

The court heard the offence was detected on July 20 last year when he was pulled over for a traffic stop on his motorbike at Morayfield.

Evison was in possession of 54.979g of crystal substance, which contained 14.651g pure methamphetamine but a purity of only about 25 per cent.

It was accepted by the Crown the ice was for Evison’s personal use.

He was charged and granted bail, but ultimately Evison was remanded in pre-sentence custody on May 28 this year due to the commission of further offences.

They included wilful damage, breaching bail, evading police, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a weapon and ammunition, driving without due care and attention and other offences.

He was sentenced in the Caboolture Magistrates Court on August 18 to an effective head sentence of about 13 months, with parole eligibility set at April 25 next year, with his full-time release date on June 14.

Justice Peter Davis told the court Evison’s criminal history was consistent with someone who had a longstanding addiction to methamphetamine.

He sentenced Evison to 12 months’ imprisonment, suspended for an operational period of three years from April 25, 2022, the day Evison will be eligible for parole on his previous sentence.

According to Evison’s social media, he is a carpenter by trade who attended Redcliffe State High School.
