Friends pay tribute to 61-year-old personal trainer after fatal motorcycle crash

The 61-year-old man who died in a motorcycle crash north of Brisbane on Monday is being remembered as a larger than life man who was an inspiration to many.
Andrew ‘Kiwi’ McGillivray of Bongaree died after his motorcycle collided with the rear of a truck at Ningi, near the intersection of Bribie Island Rd and Browns Rd at about 11.20am on Monday, December 6.
Friends have taken to social media to pay tribute to the much loved husband, dad and grandfather.
Mr McGillivray grew up in New Zealand and was a constable in the New Zealand Police from 1990 to 2004 before moving to Australia.
He and his wife Cathy operate a personal training business and gym at Bongaree, on Bribie Island – Fit Beyond 50.
Devastated friends took to social media to share touching tributes to Mr McGillivray.
Mark Smith wrote: “Absolutely no words. Someone who was never afraid of simply doing life his way.
“Gonna (sic) miss those big hugs brother. Through your continual kindness you have carved an impression in all our hearts and lives. You were truly larger than life”.
Alex Caton said he couldn’t believe he was gone.
“You were an inspiration to all,” Mr Caton wrote.
“You had a heart of gold and only ever wanted to help people be the best they could be and always up for a good time and a laugh.
“I can never repay you for your loyalty and brotherhood.
“I hope you knew who much you were loved and respected. You will be dearly missed.”
Debbie Kent shared: “So hard to believe this awful news. The world will never be the same.”
Jason Stevenson said: “RIP Andrew, you sure made a lot of folks smile”.
Bearded Men of the Sunshine Coast shared on Facebook that their “hearts were broken”.
“Kiwi had an infectious passion for life, was so friendly to everyone he met, lived life to the fullest and shared an incredible life with his love Cathy,” they shared.
“We are grateful that you both spent time with us over the years and are fortunate to have the memories.
“Ride in Paradise our friend! You will be sorely missed.”
The 41-year-old truck driver was not physically injured in the crash.
Police are continuing to investigate.
