Five Moreton Bay taverns will reopen their doors this week – coinciding with the relaunch of the NRL season – but it won’t be business as usual.
Australian Venue Co. will reopen the Mango Hill Tavern, Sundowner Hotel Motel (Caboolture), Bribie Island Hotel and Woodpecker Hotel (Burpengary) today, and the Redcliffe Tavern on Thursday.
It will also reopen its four Sunshine Coast venues this week.
Australian Venue Co. state manager of Queensland Scott Brydson said they were looking forward to being able to serve the community again.
The taverns have been closed since March 23, in line with COVID-19 restrictions.
All tables will be distanced 1.5m apart, hand sanitiser will be readily available, the number of patrons will be restricted, and there will be increased cleaning regimes, temperature checks for staff and contactless payment encouraged.
“While the team will still welcome guests with a warm smile and friendly hello, we’ve created some new ‘contactless’ measures that help us to comply with Government restrictions and guarantee our customers a safe and enjoyable experience at our venues,” Mr Brydson said.
“Our Queensland based venues are proud to pioneer this new, safe socialising experience for our customers. We are determined to not let a bit of distance stand in the way of creating a memorable customer experience.
“Our venues will soon be offering innovative, contactless ordering thanks to a partnership with Mr Yum.
“Customers will be able to view the menu, with images of all items, order and pay on their phone via the venue websites. There is no need to download an app and the meals and drinks will be brought to the tables by the team.”
Accommodation facilities at the Sundowner and the Bribie Island Hotel will also reopen.
Mr Brydson said this would see hundreds of staff back working.
He said they would also be able to re-engage with local suppliers including cleaners, rubbish removal, produce suppliers and musicians.

“The last couple of months have been catastrophic for the hospitality industry but we are proud to be part of an industry which has proved itself to be resilient, supportive and as hard working as ever at this difficult time,” he said.
“We are so pleased to be reopening our venues to the public again and to be able to reconnect with our loyal customers. While it will be a ‘new normal’, it will be great for people to be able to enjoy and drink and a meal at their local again.”
As part of the reopening the taverns will be offering special deals.
The first allows a group of 10 people to book the whole pub to themselves for a two-hour private session – the only catch is each person must spend a minimum of $60.
Those keen to secure a seat to watch the footy games can book through the footy game session deal – it is $60 for a classic pub meal and two house drinks – it can be booked by a group of mates, couple or individual and guarantees you a seat from the whole game.
