An electrical fault is believed to have started a fire which has extensively damaged a long standing nail salon inside a busy Moreton Bay shopping centre.

Much of the Glamour Nails & Waxing salon inside the Burpengary Plaza has been damaged by fire, with an electrical fault believed to have caused a blaze inside the salon.

Cleaners at the Burpengary Plaza are cleaning up wet floors from the sprinkler system’s response to the fire, with a number of shops still shut but others on the other side of the centre trading.

The fire was out by the time fire crews arrived just after 5.30am, the centre’s sprinkler system believed to have extinguished the blaze but a heavy layer of smoke lingered around the salon and the centre.

Crews undertook atmospheric monitoring to ensure air quality reached a suitable level.

No patients required transport to hospital and fire investigators remain on scene.

Glamour Nails & Waxing owner Vinh ‘Vinny’ Thanidinh said he raced to the plaza when he got the call from emergency services.

The owner was able to quickly run into the damaged salon and grab a stack of paperwork before, before letting the fire investigators again take over the scene.

“The ceiling is gone and there’s flooded wall damage,” Mr Thanidinh said.

“Most of the floor was soaking in the water.

“Some chairs and equipment were burned out by the electrical fault.

“It was all shock to see what happened.

“I hoped it was something else.”

Vinny said he was feeling some luck by the fact he is insured but held concern for his staff who may be out of work for some time.

He added he doesn’t expect to be able to enter the shop for at least a week.

“You can still smell it,” Mr Thanidinh said.

“It wasn’t a big fire but it’s bad enough.”

Jade Jewellers issued a statement on its Facebook page a short time ago.

“Dear customers,

“Due to a fire incident in Burpengary Plaza, our end of the centre is currently inaccessible and we have therefore been instructed we cannot open this morning until the situation has been rectified.

“We apologise for the inconvenience and we will keep you updated as soon as we are able to open our doors.”
