A MULTINATIONAL property developer has joined the local branch of the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) as it works to get approval for a major project north of Brisbane.

Lendlease, which has submitted an application to establish about 2500 lots at Pine Valley, west of Burpengary, recently got a company representative appointed to the Moreton Bay branch of the UDIA.

Gary Searle, Lendlease’s National Delivery and Procurement manager, joins the committee, previously having worked as project director on the 750-lot Fernbrooke Ridge development at Redbank Plains, near Ipswich.

He will join long-time UDIA Moreton committee members Keith Cairns from Ausbuild, David Trask from Traskland and Adam McVie from Dennis Family Corporation.

According to UDIA Queensland’s website, the Moreton branch of the UDIA is committed to “ensuring members see the benefits that flow on from major infrastructure investment.”

“Our years of working with Council to resolve issues and look for innovative policy solutions, means we are a trusted adviser to council officers on the issues facing the development industry.

“To ensure council is aware of, and responsive to our members’ issues, we continue to represent our members via high-level communications with Moreton Bay Regional Council and bimonthly co-ordination meetings with Unitywater.”

A Lendlease spokeswoman said the company has been a UDIA member for decades.

“This allows us to contribute to the conversation on building communities through policy advocacy, innovation and research,” she said.

“It’s important to be involved in the Moreton Bay Region chapter because of our interest in smart and appropriate development in our communities.

“The appointment of Gary Searle to the chapter is part of Lendlease being involved in this discussion.”

She said Mr Searle had a diverse level of experience across the property industry, locally and nationally, leading many innovations in communities over that time.

The Moreton branch held a meeting on May 2 discussing a range of issues including engagement strategies with Moreton Bay Regional Council that would improve collaboration with the council and in turn get better outcomes for UDIA members.

Other matters raised at the meeting included issues with the Department of Main Roads; GIS modelling data across Moreton Bay for land supply; and a Unitywater stakeholder update.

The other new faces in the branch include Julian Kemp from RPS and Mark Mossop from Oxmar Properties, while Kell Cronin replaces Sarah Gould as Peet’s representative.

Todd Zuideveld from Urbex has left the committee.

Oxmar meanwhile is involved in a long-running legal dispute with a resident in one of its estates at Griffin over the installation of solar panels, which will set a legal precedent once the outcome is determined.

Branch members Blair Britton from Stockland, Matt McAndrew from McAndrew Property Group and Peter Lightbody from North Harbour Holdings Pty Ltd make up the remaining members.
