A father was found hiding in a cupboard after police allege he climbed onto a woman and repeatedly punched her in the face, a court has heard.

Corey Dean Packer applied for bail in Caboolture Magistrates Court on Monday on charges including assault occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence).

The court heard the recycling worker from Sandstone Point allegedly climbed on top of the woman with whom he has a child and ‘punched her numerous times’.

Packer claimed the woman was drunk and caused the injuries to herself but prosecution told the court this was not the case.

“To inflict … serious enough injuries on her own face is a very difficult thing to do,” prosecutor said.

“She had significant injuries, they came from the defendant.”

The court heard police were called to the home on July 17 where they found Packer hiding in a cupboard.

“He knew police were coming, he was hiding from police,” the prosecutor said.

Packer’s defence lawyer Lilly Fletcher said her client was hiding from a cousin of the woman, who was coming “to sort him out”.

Magistrate Peter Hasted denied Packer bail. His next court appearance will be on August 7.
