Woolworths Senior Development manager Chris Sheehan said it would be a real neighbourhood centre offering a range of different services.

“There will be a full line supermarket, a medical centre, pharmacy, and things like a gym, hairdresser, child care centre and service station,” he said.

“Leasing for the retail component has just started and we’re going through that process at the moment,” he said.

He said the supermarket would incorporate a number of modern initiatives including a drive-through facility.

“People can order their groceries online, book a time and drive down a purpose-built drive through and we’ll load the groceries into their boot and they can drive off,” he said.

“There’s probably only a handful of these around the country but it’s certainly the way it is going as we compliment the online business with home delivery and now with pick-up.”

The complex will also have a four-star green rating that will minimise its impact on the environment during construction and its ongoing operation.

Cr Sutherland welcomed the development to the region, saying it would create jobs for local people.

“In the Moreton Bay region, we’ve got one North Lakes occurring every two years, that’s our growth,” he said.

“In 2016 we had the fastest growing economy in Queensland and that’s because we accepted development we don’t knock it back.

“But there is a type of development we like and that is balanced development.

“We keep people in their local area and create local jobs.

“It’s about jobs at the end of the day, there will be a lot off kids here who will take up part time employment in this facility and they’ll be going to that university down the road.”

Mr Miles said the project would mean a lot for the community of Dakabin.

“When Government and business work together it brings our communities together and provides vital job opportunities,” he said.

“Over the next 12 months this $35 million project will provide Dakabin with 150 jobs, and that’s before the first shop even opens.

“When construction’s complete the centre will be able to provide 200 retail jobs.

“And with the new retail space provided by the centre, if you’re running a business and want to tap into the opportunities of a booming suburb like Dakabin, this is a fantastic place to set up shop.”

The centre is expected to open its doors mid 2020.
