Three people have been fined for animal cruelty related to the slaughter of racehorses at a Caboolture abattoir.

The trio were linked to racehorses being beaten, shocked and screamed at before they were slaughtered at Meramist Abattoir.

The abattoir was at the centre of national news following the release of hidden-camera footage by the ABC that revealed the distressing scenes.

“Three defendants pleaded guilty in the Caboolture Magistrates Court to charges under the Animal Care and Protection Act 2001 and Animal Care and Protection Regulation 2012,” the Biosecurity Queensland spokesman said.
