Comedian has most Aussie solution for controversial Australia Day date

IS this the most Aussie solution to the controversial debate surrounding Australia Day?

Should we change Australia Day from January 26?
Should we change Australia Day from January 26?

THE debate over Australia Day’s timing is nothing new but we might have found a stereotypical Aussie solution.

Over the years support has gathered for a date change from January 26 — the anniversary of the landing of the first fleet, with some groups labelling it “Invasion Day”.

Australian comedian Jordan Raskopoulos from Axis of Awesome has come up with a cheeky solution that might please everyone.

Raskopoulos tweeted: “I say it every year but can we just have Australia Day on May 8? May8? M8! Maaaaaate”.

The tweet was retweeted 810 times and has more than 1500 likes.

Raskopoulos isn’t the only one rethinking the now seemingly controversial day.

Today, Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) launched its annual lamb campaign, avoiding any mention of “Australia Day” while pushing lamb as “the most multicultural meat”.

The ad recreates the settlement of Australia and poses the question “Aren’t we all boat people?”
