A court north of Brisbane has heard allegations that a Caboolture woman hit and killed an elderly Burpengary woman while driving in a Toyota Hilux in a carpark.

Charmaine Backhouse, 43, of Caboolture, faced Caboolture Magistrates Court on June 6 after being charged with driving without due care or attention or driving without reasonable consideration for other persons, causing death or grievous bodily harm.

Court documents said that at 9.25am on March 9, Backhouse drove a silver 2017 Toyota Hilux without due care and attention in a public carpark at 61-65 Morayfield Rd, Caboolture South, causing the death of 77-year-old Burpengary woman, Denise Glasgow.

The 77-year-old was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition, where she later died from her injuries.

Backhouse’s lawyer James Torcetti told the court the matter would “take a certain course’’ and asked for a four-week adjournment.

Magistrate James Blanch adjourned the matter for further mention on July 4 at Caboolture Magistrates Court.
