A popular shopping centre north of Brisbane has changed hands and with three empty shop fronts to fill, the new owners have plans to bring back a much-loved retail chain, which shut down nearly a year ago.

Caboolture Square changed hands this week and the new owners and managers have said they want to make a mark on the local community.

The centre was purchased by IJ Financial Services Limited, who have appointed First Asset Management to take the Centre in an exciting new direction.

Caboolture West is at the heart of a rapidly growing corridor north of Brisbane with the area expected to provide approximately 30,000 homes for around 70,000 people and generate up to 23,000 jobs.

Since taking over the centre this week, the new owners posted the news to Facebook and were met with an outpouring from the local community to ‘bring back Kmart’.

After 34 years at the centre, Kmart closed in June 2021, as it was the end of their lease and locals were devastated by the news of the popular department store shutting its doors.

Caboolture Square draws customers from not only the local area but beyond into rural areas including Woodford, Wamuran, D’Aguilar, Mount Mee, and also Bribie Island.

According to the new owners, the retail mix meets the everyday shopping needs of locals but is missing the “discount department store experience that provides consumers with choice for homewares, clothing, toys, party goods, electrical and so much more”.

The new team are looking for community support to lobby Kmart to return to Caboolture Square.

“Help us by supporting our petition,” the owners said.

“Head to the Caboolture Square Facebook Page and comment on the pinned post ‘Bring Back Kmart’.

“Feel free to add what you love about Kmart to further support the cause. Make sure you share the post and use #bringbackkmart across your socials to further increase the message and support that we need to show Kmart we care.

“Come on locals, let’s get together and have one last ditch effort to get your local Kmart back to Caboolture Square. “
