A Moreton Bay paedophile has faced court again after breaching his bail conditions by coming into contact with a child under the age of 16.
Kallangur man Bryan McLennan, 37, pleaded guilty in the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court to two offences; breaching bail conditions and assault occasioning bodily harm on September 17 via video-link.
It’s not the first time McLennan has appeared before court having been jailed for possessing child exploitation material (CEM), caught hosting disgusting images and videos on social media accounts.
The 37-year-old pleaded guilty in Brisbane District Court to six offences in May of this year, the most serious among them possessing CEM and contravening an order to provide information used to access devices.
The District Court heard McLennan, who served six months behind bars in 2015–16 for possessing CEM, was busted a second time after police were referred to a Kik social media account called ‘Kidlover’, registered to McLennan’s IP address, on July 4, 2019.
Police seized a laptop, tablet and five mobile phones under a warrant with a number of social media accounts uncovered, which he was required to report under the conditions of his previous sentence, which was imposed on October 30, 2015.
McLennan pleaded guilty to breaking a bail condition entered into at the Brisbane District Court on July 9, 2020, having contact with a child under the age of 16 at Kallangur on September 23 last year.
The court heard that same day McLennan assaulted a person.
Police prosecutor Shannon Bryce told the court it was a “vicious assault”.
“Ordinarily I would submit 9 to 12 months given the severity of the assault that has occurred,” he said.
“ … This is quite a vicious assault on a young child who was incapable of defending themself and it caused significant injuries.”
The court previously heard McLennan went to school in the Deception Bay area and had previously had a good work history.
Acting Magistrate Patrick Murphy said in respect to the breach of bail McLennan wouldn’t be further punished.
He was sentenced to imprisonment for four months to be served cumulatively with his current sentence.
McLennan was previously sentenced by Judge Leanne Clare SC in May to two-and-a-half years’ imprisonment, with parole eligibility on January 30, 2022.
