The Federal Government pledged $20 million for Bribie Island Rd during the 2018 Longman by-election, while the Queensland Government has said it would contribute a further $10.4 million.

The money would go toward an upgrade of the Old Toorbul Point Rd intersection, the turn off to The Abbey Museum and St. Michael’s College.

Federal Minister for Infrastructure Michael McCormack said he was waiting on the state government to submit a project proposal report to kickstart the process.

“As this is a state road, the Australian Government is not able to do this without Queensland,” Mr McCormack said.

“The Federal Government made $20 million available in July 2018 to tackle congestion and improve safety on the road, but Transport Minister Mark Bailey hasn’t lifted a finger in eight months.”

But Minister Mark Bailey said it had taken nine months for the Federal Government ‘to come clean on where its promised $20 million was coming from’.

“We recently received confirmation that it will be funding pulled together from savings from other Queensland road projects,” he said.

It was previously stated the funding would come from existing resources within the Infrastructure Investment Program.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads will now finalise engineering reports before the project can move forward.
