One of the two young men killed in a horror crash at Bracalba northwest of Caboolture on Sunday afternoon has been identified as a 20-year-old Mango Hill man.

Mitch Harpley was travelling in a car with a 22-year-old Redcliffe man along the D’Aguilar Highway at about 3.45pm on March 21.

Initial investigations from the forensic crash unit indicate the car travelling west on the highway collided with two utes travelling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the car, Mr Harpley, and his 22-year-old passenger died at the scene.

Three other men travelling in the utes were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Mr Harpley’s brother Lachlan took to shared a small tribute on social media.

He said in a post that Mr Harpley had been helping a friend move.

“Yes. I did lose my brother and yes he meant more to me then anything in this world,” Lachlan wrote on social media.

“The roads took an angel. Rest in paradise brother.”

Acting Chief Superintendent Ray Rohweder has this morning made a heartfelt plea to road users, as eight people this weekend lost their lives on the state’s roads, including five on Sunday.

“This is one of the darkest moments of road safety in Queensland in my 35 years as a sworn police officer,” Acting Chief Supt Rohweder said.

“We just really need people to take stock of what they’re doing.

“Think about what you’re doing, respect other road users and respect yourself. The consequences that unfold as a tragedy of this behaviour is life long.”

Tragically, 61 people have died on Queensland’s road this year to date, compared to last year’s 41 deaths in the same time period.
