An award-winning husband and wife duo, who have created some of Brisbane’s tastiest and quirkiest burgers, have launched their newest and busiest store yet.

Ben Kirk, 44, and Kristine Kirk, 43, of Benz on Miller burger shop have opened their newest venture at Tingalpa, after nine years of creating drool-worthy burger combinations for South East Queensland in their famous burger trucks and Eagle Farm and Murraree locations.

Mr Kirk said he took the plunge to open his own cafe after working as a chef for his entire career.

“In 2014 we opened at Murraree, under the same name, and quickly realised the popularity of our burger … so the burger menu expanded and the cafe items became less and less,” Mr Kirk said.

“During Covid-19 we needed to branch out because our corporate clients were starting to work from home and we wanted to share our food with the wider community.

“In April 2020 we were voted the Courier Mail’s best burger in Brisbane and things really took off from there,” he said.

Mr Kirk’s unique burgers are attributed to his passion for creating sauces, pickles, mayonnaise and combining sweet and salty flavours.

“We make everything on our menu from scratch and it also locally sourced and quality ingredients, you can taste the difference,” Mr Kirk said.

“I understand food flavour and it all starts with good produce, we also cater for 98 per cent of food intolerances and allergies,” he said.

The Tingalpa store is the busiest store the couple have opened as customers are able to sit in the 60 seat venue and order seven nights per week.

“We have introduced desserts at this store and a thick shake menu we change up each week … we are serving lemon curd, toffee apple and lamington flavoured shakes at the moment,” Mr Kirk said.

“Our most well loved and Instagrammable burger is the ‘Sweet Baby Jeevus’, a turkey-maple glazed fried chicken burger.

“This shop will have a burger special and a side special per week too, including smoked wings, brisket croquettes with a Coca-Cola dipping sauce,” he said.

Mr Kirk said his passion for making customers happy fuels his business.

“We would love to open more stores, but we are focusing on the new location with the current economic climate,” Mr Kirk said.

“Our secret is making the food with extra love,” he said.
