TAYLOR McKeown, from Bellmere, has been hailed one of Australia’s new stars of the swimming pool after a golden performance in Glasgow this morning.

The 19-year-old, who was born in Redcliffe, was almost a second in front of her nearest rival in a time of 2.22.36 after coming in as the third fast qualifier.
It atoned for narrowly missing a berth at the London Olympics in the best way possible.
Sharon McKeown was part of a bevy of family members in the stands and said watching her daughter’s triumph and said it was still just a blur.
“I was so excited. I was so happy. She would have been so elated. It just makes it all worthwhile. To get a medal is just a bonus,” she said.
“She’s just done a great job and good her.”
Mrs McKeown said she felt not going into the race as the fastest qualifier would have helped take the pressure off.
“She was probably just relieved. Once she saw us she shed a few tears,” she said
Taylor is expected to be swimming even faster in time for the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships on the Gold Coast in just under one month’s time.
