A drug addict, who stormed his family home north of Brisbane with a shotgun over an inheritance dispute, has been granted bail while facing a fresh firearm charge.
Bellara resident Jessee Ray Phillips, 21, appeared in Redcliffe Magistrates Court via video link on October 26, charged with two counts of attempted unlawful entry of vehicle whilst committing an indictable offence, threatening violence, discharge firearm or other act and obstructing police.
The charges are alleged to have been committed in Deception Bay on October 24.
Police prosecutor Senior Sergeant David Pollock said the brandishing of a weapon was very concerning, as was the high volume of triple-0 calls made as a result.
“The nature and seriousness of this incident from October 24 leads me to submit he is an unacceptable risk to be granted bail,” Mr Pollock said.
“Whether there’s drugs or other mental health issues, the risk is too great for the court to consider bail.”
Phillips’ Lawyer Andrew Stewart accepted Phillips has a troubling criminal history, adding his client’s mental health needed to be investigated further.
“He does take prescribed medication for a mental health condition,” Mr Stewart said.
“He does accept he has a drug problem which he’s addressing.
“He does a limited recollection of events which occurred in relation to these offences.
“He does have family support, his grandmother is with him outside of court today.”
Magistrate Patrick Murphy said Phillips had a disturbing history but granted Phillips bail under strict conditions.
