A CABOOLTURE backpacker’s hostel could be transformed into a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre.
Not-for-profit support organisation Lives Lived Well bought the property at 55 Lower King St, Caboolture earlier this month and a development application has been lodged.
A Moreton Bay Regional Council spokesman confirmed the application was code accessible, meaning it was not subject to formal public consultation.
“The proposal is for a two-storey accommodation, which is the same as what’s currently on that site,” he said.
“There are no complaints or objections on file.”
Lives Lived Well CEO Mitchell Giles said the development would bring a new 20-bed recovery centre to the region to provide increased drug and alcohol support.
“This service will provide options that are not currently locally available,” Mr Giles said.
Lives Lived Well already manages three other similar health services in Queensland.
This project, announced last year by Federal Minister for Health Greg Hunt, aims to help bolster local support in response to the strong demand being experienced in Caboolture.
