A developer hopes to turn a prominent spot in a popular southeast Queensland seaside village into a 62m tall hotel and apartment complex.

Troy Smyth of Ryall and Smyth Architects has lodged a development application with Moreton Bay Regional Council, on behalf of owner Damion Bielby, to transform a building along the Redcliffe foreshore, north of Brisbane.

REDCLIFFE BECOMES HOT SPOT FOR INVESTORS

The application, lodged with council on November 23, seeks permission to build an 18-storey tower with 141 short term accommodation units, 143 permanent units, a function room, hotel, shop and food and drink outlets.

According to the application the building, once complete, would be 62.65m tall.

Under the Moreton Bay Regional Council Planning Scheme the maximum height for a building along Redcliffe Pde is 39m.

In 2010 council approved a development application to turn the site into a 12-storey residential and hotel tower.

It was proposed to include 97 units.

The applicant wrote in the report: “This application builds on the existing approval and delivers significant enhancements to the previous design, including a function facility that will facilitate a need in the locality for entertainment and events space that is flexible and large enough to cater for a variety of events all year round.”

New social housing units at Redcliffe

Moreton Bay Regional Council is waiting on a signed document, not included in the original application, to be submitted before formally accepting the application.

Council, in 2016, approved a development application for a 13 storey tower along Redcliffe Pde at Comino’s Arcade.

While construction is yet to start the development will include 89 units, shops, restaurants and businesses.

There is also an application lodged with council to build two 10 storey towers at Newport Marina.
