A woman who claims she was a victim of violence took the law into her own hands when she took a baseball bat to the Kallangur home of her alleged attacker, smashing in the window in a fit of unbridled rage.

Chantelle Dalziel pleaded guilty to a single charge of wilful damage at the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court today.

The court heard the 31-year-old mother ran into her alleged attacker on the morning of November 1, forcing her to relive her years-old trauma and reignite her anger.

Chantelle Dalziel said she was overcome by anger when she encountered her alleged rapist for the first time in a number of years.

In an effort to exact her own justice, Dalziel enlisted the help of co-accused Matthew Owen Jackson and drove to the home of the alleged attacker.

CCTV footage showed Dalziel and Jackson approaching the house with baseball bats at 11.40am.

Jackson knocked on the front door and when there was no response, they turned away and drove off.

A few minutes later, however, Dalziel returned to smash in one of the front windows.

The court heard the pair visited a second Kallangur address a few minutes later, where Jackson smashed in another window.

The pair handed themselves in to the Petrie police station the following day and were each charged with one count of wilful damage, for which they both pleaded guilty at court.

Neither Dalziel nor Jackson have any criminal history.

Lawyer Shaun Kolo told the court Dalziel suffered significant trauma as a victim of abuse and her emotions simply got the better of her.

“You can consider it an isolated incident,” he said.

The Magistrate told Dalziel she could not take the law into her own hands and encouraged her to pursue the matter further with police.

Dalziel and Jackson were each placed on an $800 good behaviour bond for three months, with no convictions recorded.
