A high school community north of Brisbane is coming to terms with the sudden death of one of its school captains overnight.
Liam Keegan, 17, died about 8pm Tuesday, after being electrocuted in his home at Darley Rd, Upper Caboolture.
Police, paramedics and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services responded, along with Workplace Health and Safety investigators and several Energex crews.
Tullawong State High School principal Kiah Lanham said the school community was “deeply saddened by the tragic and sudden passing” of Liam.
“Liam Keegan was a popular and talented young person who will be greatly missed by all his friends and teachers,” Ms Lanhan said.
“Our thoughts and sincere sympathies go out to his family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time.
“Support is being provided to students and staff, and guidance counsellors are available to provide support.”
Just weeks ago Liam featured in Quest Community News’ school captain feature, highlighting the leaders of tomorrow.
“I want to leave a legacy and know when I graduate, I was a part of making even a small change for our students and community by being proactive in establishing a positive culture and a sense of belonging for all students,” Liam told the Caboolture Shire Herald.
“I want to be a proactive captain and not just sit back and watch”.
Liam’s many friends took to social media to share moving tributes to their mate.
Lester Miles wrote: “Rest easy now mate. You were one of the best.”
Bec Juckes wrote: “Rest in peace Liam. You made an impact on so many people without knowing it. fly high.”
Dylan Thompson said Liam “had a big impact on lots of people”.
Police said the incident was not being treated as suspicious and Workplace Health and Safety were now the lead agency investigating.
A Workplace Health and Safety spokesman confirmed the Electrical Safety Office was investigating the cause of the incident and would be visiting the site this morning.
One witness reported hearing some “distressing screaming”, before the sirens. Others reported hearing a big bang.
Friends of Mr Keegan have shared dozens of touching tributes to the young man, on social media.
Kiah Connelly wrote: “I can’t believe you’re gone mate, you were taken too soon. Love you forever”.
Jill Rushton wrote: “ Such a beautiful young life lost too soon. My thoughts are with his family and friends.”
“Rest in peace beautiful, you will always be remembered,” wrote Kat Wilson.
Bree Bullock wrote: “Love you man, rest easy taken to soon sending my love to your family and friends”.
AJ Aspery said: “I didn’t believe it at first. You were taken too soon. Rest in peace.”
Ethan Smith said he just couldn’t believe it.
“It’s hard to think that your gone mate you were taken to soon, rest easy.”
