WORK is under way on the $3.6 million Yarrabilba Family, Children and Community Hub.

The construction of the centre has created 12 jobs.

When completed, the centre will offer health services for families and children including early learning, broader community support activities and specialist consulting services.

State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Minister Cameron Dick said the government had fully funded the building and would continue to work with stakeholders through the Community Hub and Partnerships CHAPS program.

“The CHAPS program is continuing to bring together industry and government with the community services sector to produce real social outcomes,” Mr Dick said.

“The Palaszczuk government recognises that co-locating services in key community sites such as Yarrabilba State School will give Yarrabilba families easy access to the services they need and assist Yarrabilba children to get the best start in life.”

Mr Dick said his department engaged Deloitte Access Economics to hold a range of workshops and online surveys to identify the community’s aspirations and vision for the hub.

He said the partnership would also establish priorities for the hub’s services.

Education Minister Grace Grace said the community hub was expected to be completed by August and would help to meet the needs of the rapidly growing Yarrabilba area.

“The hub will be co-located with the new Yarrabilba State School, which opened in January,” she said.

Workshops in robotics and science have already started at the primary school which also has dedicated music rooms, a resource centre and a green room for video recording.

A high school is also planned for Yarrabilba and will be in the same are as the primary school.

More than 45,000 people are expected to be living in Yarrabilba by 2041.

Mr Dick said a further 20,000 jobs in the community sector would be needed to meet growth across the state.

“That’s on top of the 65,000 strong workforce we already have.”
