Woman jailed for relationship with female partner’s 12yo daughter

A Logan woman molested the young daughter of her female partner over a nine-week period, leaving the straight child “lost and confused”.

A 22-year-old Logan woman has been jailed for maintaining a nine-week “relationship” with the 12-year-old daughter of her female partner.

The Marsden woman, who can’t be named to protect the identity of the child victim, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court to one count of maintaining an unlawful relationship with a child.

She also pleaded guilty to two other indictable offences, unlawful use of a motor vehicle while armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, stealing, and a further 76 summary offences.

The court heard the unlawful relationship was maintained between August 31 and November 6, 2017, a period of about nine weeks.

The defendant was aged 19 at the time.

The court heard the defendant was in an “on-off relationship with (the young girl’s) mother”, who had three other children also.

The defendant was living with the family and was thought of as a “father figure” to the children, according to Crown prosecutor Nicola Howard.

“The offending commenced with kissing and hugging and progressed to French kissing, what the complainant referred to as ‘pashing’,” Ms Howard told the court.

Later, the offending also included at least four incidents of digital penetration of the child and at least one of digital penetration of the defendant.

The court heard this often occurred while the mother and other children were home.

The mother initially became suspicious when she caught the defendant in a “compromising” position with her daughter, described as them being face-to-face on the couch “gazing deeply into each other’s eyes”.

“I’ll kill you if you’ve done something with my daughter,” the mother told the defendant, the court heard.

The mother’s suspicions were confirmed a short time later when one of the young girl’s siblings busted the pair in flagrante and a police complaint was made.

The other two indictable offences involving the armed carjacking occurred at Westfield Carindale on May 30 last year while the defendant was on Supreme Court bail.

The male victim in this case believed the defendant to be brandishing a gun, which was tucked into her waistband, and handed over the keys.

The defendant then went to pick up her female fiance and stole a phone charger.

The 76 other offences included 22 counts of breaching bail conditions, 22 counts of stealing, nine counts of fraud, multiple counts of driving unlicensed and multiple counts of possessing drugs and utensils.

Defence counsel Debra Wardle told the court her client had a troubled upbringing and was only schooled to Year 8.

Judge Craig Chowdhury described the case as “unusual” in that charges of this nature typically related to older men with young girls.

He sentenced the defendant to four-and-a-half years jail with parole eligibility as at today, in light of the fact the defendant had spent 790 days in custody already, split over two periods since 2017.

She also copped a lengthy disqualification of her driver’s licence.
