Major traffic delays are expected to continue on the Pacific and Gateway motorways this afternoon after a series of crashes brought peak hour traffic to a standstill.

A three-car crash has occurred on the Pacific Motorway at Underwood, near Underwood Rd, just before 3pm.

Queensland Ambulance and police are on the scene, with multiple lanes closed southbound while debris is cleared.

Police have advised southbound motorists to avoid the area if possible, with both motorways affected by the standstill.

Ambulance crews are treating one woman at the scene.

A seprate incident southbound in the right lane before Marshall Rd at Greensopes is also causing big delays closer to the city, with traffic backed up to Coronation Dr, Hale St and Countess St.

Towing are on the scene but expect long delays.

Earlier, a woman was helped out of a car on the Pacific Motorway after a collision with a truck just after 2.15pm.

The crash occurred on the northbound lane just outside the Jaguar dealership at Springwood, near Ikea.

Police said the two vehicles collided and motorists stopped traffic on the highway while a woman was helped out of the car.

At 2.30pm traffic was banked up for more than 2km on the highway after police blocked off one lane.
