COFFEE, muffins, bottled water and gourmet sandwiches were some of the items which dropped from the sky to a curious crowd watching Queensland’s first drone delivery.

US-based Google sister company Wing, was airing its state-of-the-art technology which will start servicing Logan this month.

The company, which started operating in Canberra this year, has expanded into the Logan suburbs of Marsden and Crestmead.

Residents in those suburbs can order coffee, cake, rolls, small grocery items, hardware and even sandwiches for school lunch from four Logan businesses.

Using a Wing phone app, residents can order coffee from Slacks Creek Extractions, items from the Friendly Grocer at Crestmead, Browns Plains Hardware and gourmet rolls from Harmony on Carmody.

As the trial rolled out in a Crestmead park this morning, a crowd gathered to road test whether the coffee made at a Berrinba warehouse, was hot when delivered.

Crestmead mum Winnie Nguyen said she and her two sons will give the service a go.

“The coffee was hot and it's a great idea. The boys will love ordering when their friends are around.”

But the beauty of the air delivery service stretched further than catering for busy mums and inquisitive kids.

Wing chief in Australia Terrance Bouldin-Johnson said the business was at the leading edge of innovation and was forging the way to adapt health and emergency services.

“Epipens into schools, we are developing with every delivery and this is just the start,” he said.

Today’s trial revealed the noise level of the service, which has been criticised by residents in some Canberra suburbs.

The drones in Logan will be quieter than those used in Canberra but produce at least 69 decibels and were easily heard from the park.

Since the Canberra tests, Wing has modified its craft for Logan so they have four propellers instead of three to dull any high-pitched sound.
