A young Scenic Rim tradie has had his bail refused after allegedly taking a baseball bat to a 72-year-old’s car outside a Logan shopping centre in response to criticism over his littering passenger.
Tamborine pool tiler Will Warren, 20, was taken into custody on Tuesday after police sent to question the young man over the alleged road rage incident allegedly discovered 50g of methamphetamine, smaller quantities of multiple other drugs and $4815 cash at his residence.
Police also allegedly discovered other dangerous and restricted drugs there.
Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday heard Mr Warren was on bail for other indictable drug offences, stemming from a prior search of his vehicle which allegedly uncovered 10.435g of cocaine, 105.314g of methamphetamine, and $2730 cash.
Police allege the road rage incident which brought Warren to police attention for the second time occurred last month on November 7 in the carpark of the Coles centre at Yarrabilba Dr.
Mr Warren, in response to the 72-year-old’s apparent criticism of his passenger’s littering, allegedly fetched a baseball bat from his back seat and rained blows on the elderly man’s vehicle.
CCTV footage played to the court appeared to show Mr Warren destroying the man’s windscreen and passenger window, hitting the bonnet and then abusing the man while trying to enter the vehicle.
Police claim Mr Warren punched the elderly man also but this is disputed by defence lawyer Andrew McGinness.
Mr McGinness told the court Mr Warren had no concluded criminal history and was a very young defendant.
He noted there are no other allegations of violence against Mr Warren.
Mr McGinness also stressed that all drug charges would be contested on the basis they did not belong to Mr Warren.
The drug charges for which Mr Warren has bail are set for a committal hearing with cross-examination of police witnesses on January 15.
Mr Warren did not receive a second grant of bail.
He was remanded in custody to next appear on February 17 next year.
