The most traumatic trip of his life has ended for a dying Logan man after Queensland Health allowed him to leave hotel quarantine to spend his last days at home.

‘We did it”. That was how the wife of Logan cancer patient Gary Ralph described the news they would be released from hotel quarantine to allow him to spend his precious last days at home.

The couple had returned from the most traumatic trip of their lives when Mr Ralph went to Sydney for life-extending brain surgery last week.
That trip ended today, when the dying Logan man received a short text message from Queensland Health granting him permission to leave hotel quarantine.
His wife, Wendy Child, who wept on camera during the week after they were confined to a hotel room in Brisbane, told of the relief when they got a text message from Queensland Health.
In a heartfelt text to her closest family and friends, she said they were allowed home after returning a negative COVID test today.
“We returned a negative COVID test, of course,” she said.
“ … Will be going HOME this afternoon by ambulance!!!!! They are looking at 3pm to 4pm.
“It’ll depend on how much longer we are here at Greenslopes Hospital.
“Gary’s still having testing done.
“We haven’t seen any of the news as we have been in appointments all morning.
“I got a text message from Qhealth — We did it!!!! We did it !!!!!”
The couple, who are well known in the Logan community of Windaroo will still be under quarantine rules.
The push to get them home was joined by Prime Minister Scott Morrison who was informed of their plight by Forde MP Bert van Manen.
The over turning of the rules followed Health Minister Steven Miles on Thursday saying the matter could have been better handled.
