Where to cast your vote for the federal election on Saturday

Here is the list of every pre-polling and election day voting centre in Queensland.

Election 2022: When and how you need to enrol to vote

As Queenslanders are warned to expect rain for election day, we’ve got you covered on where exactly you can go to cast your vote.

Hundreds of thousands have already voted but queues are still expected just after polls open at 8am on Saturday.

There have been about triple the number of people voting ahead of Saturday compared with the number who pre-polled in 2019 and about 15 per cent of voters have applied for postal ballots, up from about 10 per cent in 2019.

The Australian Electoral Commission said that if previous elections were anything to go by, there will be queues when polls open for about an hour before numbers drop off during the day.

Those who don’t want to queue should try voting between 2pm and 3pm.

Here are the best spots:

If you want to vote today or tomorrow, here are booths for voting ahead of Saturday’s polling day. Early voting has increased at each state and territory election throughout the pandemic, the Australian Electoral Commission reports, and has been on the rise since the 2019 election.

Covid lockdowns, particularly during the 2020 state and local government elections, saw unprecedented numbers pre-poll in the hope of avoiding queues on election day.

The move backfired, with much bigger crowds at pre-poll booths than on the actual election days, which were the most quiet on record.

Postal ballots are available before 6pm on Wednesday, May 18. Voters can request a postal ballot from the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) website (www.aec.gov.au), or from AEC offices.

You can also call 13 23 26.

You can check which electorate you live in at: aec.gov.au/electorate

People can vote at any polling place in their state or territory and plenty will open at local schools, churches, community halls and public buildings.

Voting opens at 8am on election day, Saturday May 21, and closes at 6pm sharp.

In December last year the Morrison Government was forced to withdraw a controversial Bill that would have forced voters to produce identification before being allowed to vote.
