A dental assistant from Marsden has landed in court charged with stalking after tormenting her ex-partner’s new wife with social media posts for two years.
Vanessa Leigh Silvio, 39, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Thursday to unlawful stalking.
The court heard the mum of two was in a relationship with her ex-partner for about three and a half years before she became suspicious he was being unfaithful and they separated.
She then began stalking her ex-partner’s new wife and uploading over 50 posts on Instagram referencing her between September 1, 2018, and June 1, 2021.
Magistrate Clare Kelly said upon reading the victim impact statement it was clear to see that Silvio’s offending had “a significantly high, negative impact” on the victim’s life.
“It seems to me from the facts that the hurt that you felt over the breakdown of the relationship that you had was directed towards (the victim) on a basis which was terribly destructive and invasive into her life,” she said.
“I would hope very much that you appreciate the damage that you have done and the hurt that you’ve caused.”
“Unfortunately, relationship breakdowns are very distressing and very prevalent, but it doesn’t give you any right to do the approaches that you have done.”
Silvio’s lawyer said her client was ashamed of her actions and made assurances that it will never happen again.
She was sentenced to two years probation. No conviction was recorded.
