A “LARRIKIN with the biggest heart” is how Benjamin Baumann will be remembered by his mother.
The 22-year-old was tragically killed on Friday night in Logan Village when his motorcycle and a truck collided.
Mother Jutta Baumann said her “baby boy” had a reputation for making friends laugh.
“A lot of people have said they will remember his big beautiful smile,” she said.
“He had the biggest heart. If any of his friends were in trouble, he would jump in his car and be there in a flash.”
Mrs Baumann said her son was proud of his German roots and was planning a trip to Europe.
He was known to his friends as “The German”.
His older sister, Tamara, has also paid tribute to her brother who had a special bond with her and their brother Oliver.
“He was very affectionate. There were always a lot of cuddles,” she said.
“He was always there to support you no matter what.”
She said she was especially touched by a message from family friend Sarah Harvey who summed up their relationship well.
“She wrote: ‘I slept last night thinking of Ben’s beautiful laugh and it makes me incredibly sad that I won’t get to see that big sweet smile and hear his happy voice or you guys playing around teasing each other over silly things’.”
His father, Daniel Baumann also paid tribute to his son.
“He was different, but I loved him a lot,” he said.
Benjamin graduated from Canterbury College in 2013, and head of College Donna Anderson said he would be greatly missed.
“He was very friendly and a gentle soul. Ben loved athletics and basketball, and he was always eager to voice an opinion on important issues. He will be sadly missed within our family community. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very sad time.”
Benjamin leaves behind his mother Jutta, father Daniel, sister Tamara, brother Oliver and girlfriend of four years Lauren McKay.
A floral tribute was placed for Mr Baumann at the corner of Waterford Tamborine Rd and Anzac Ave.
On Tuesday, his family moved the flowers to the Forest of Memories in Logan Village.
