LOGAN HOSPITAL CAR PARK PLANS

The car park, at Logan Hospital, is part of a $61.92 million project which will result in 1500 new undercover parking spaces at the hospital within the next year.

The car park is being built in the southwest corner of the site on the corner of Armstrong and Loganlea roads.

Loganlea train station, which is about 300m from the construction site, is slated to be moved closer to the hospital and the new multi-level car park as part of the Cross River Rail network.

Although no date has been set for the train station move, it is likely the car park will be open for business by this time next year.

Construction at the Meadowbrook site started last month with concrete columns for the first two levels of the car park installed this week.

A 39m crane will be on site for the next 12 months with the car park to be finished ahead of a $460 million expansion which will nearly double the number of beds at the hospital.

Logan primary school students have been called on to “name the crane”, while it is on site.

Health Minister Steve Miles said with more services, there would be more patients, staff and visitors and the new car park would bring the total spots in the area to more than 2000.

“By nearly doubling carparking capacity, the project will ensure there are enough car parks — now and into the future,” he said.

“People want to know that they have good access to health services – especially in times like this and this work is also providing jobs,” he said.

PARKING FEES

The new multistorey car park comes with a price and like other regional hospitals, parking fees will be charged.

Although they have yet to be set, it was likely the Logan fees would be similar to those at other regional hospitals such as Redcliffe, where a new parking facility opened this week.

From October 6, Redcliffe Hospital car park will charge $3 for the first hour, $5 for two hours, $7 for three hours, $9 for four hours and $13 for a day. The first 15 minutes are free at Redcliffe.

Like Redcliffe, concessions will be available for eligible patients and carers at Logan and there will also be discounts for staff.

The new Logan facility will have a direct walkway link to the hospital and will have cameras and lights to increase safety.

The security measures were included after a nursing student was threatened with a gun during a frightening carjacking in 2018.

The carparking tariffs and concessions will be finalised in the lead-up to the opening with fees covering capital repayments, operations, maintenance and other improvements to the existing car park.

Residents were consulted about the design for the exterior of the car park, which will be the tallest building in Meadowbrook.

More than 1400 community members and staff had their say with the winning design unveiled while Mr Miles was on site.

While in Logan yesterday, Mr Miles also unveiled new ambulance stations at Yarrabilba and Munruben, which will service southern Logan.

“Both stations will be manned around the clock initially supporting a staff of 18 each.

Yarrabilba Ambulance Station had a budget of $4.3 million and Munruben Ambulance Station had a budget of $4 million.
