Tonight’s Christmas Lights Trail at the Berrinba Wetlands has been cancelled after heavy rain and winds and some localised flash flooding.

Logan City Council apologised for any inconvenience saying residents’ safety and health was paramount.

People who registered to go to the display can apply to go on a waiting list for future nights.

The cancellation followed a severe weather warning from the Bureau of Meteorology, and a low pressure system along the southeast coast today and tomorrow, Monday.

The Pacific Motorway northbound was closed after a tree fell over.

More than 200 calls were made to the SES overnight on Saturday, mainly from the northern Gold Coast area.

Rainfall is expected to increase into Monday morning to coincide with the seasonal Spring high tides, the highest for the year.

There were reports of localised flash flooding across a number of low-lying roads in Logan including in and around Slacks Creek at Meakin Rd near Paradise Rd.

Other areas which have had water across the road were at Waterford West at Albert St, near Fitzy’s Waterford.
