Springwood AFC star Rhan Hooper has been lauded after his selection for the South Queensland rep side

Springwood Australian football club star Rhan Hooper will play for South Queensland against North Queensland at Aspley on Saturday.

Hooper’s selection was reward for a humble club man who on the field leads through action.

Springwood senior football manager Adrian Wallin said Hooper was a class act on and off the field.

Indeed Wallin said Hooper was defensively as good as any player he had observed in the code.

“He is an extremely unselfish player who is driven to run forward and produce while in possession, but he is also defensively as good as anyone I have seen,’’ Wallin said.

“He is probably the best tackler on an AFL field.’’

Wallin said Hooper, a former Brisbane Lions and Hawthorn senior player, was also an example to juniors through his ability to “at times the freakish beyond description’’.

However, Wallin said away from the field Hooper was also an encouraging figure who would think nothing of giving a club mate, junior or senior, a pat on the back if they were struggling at the club.
