80km/h signs will be replaced with 70km/h signs along some parts of Beaudesert Beenleigh Rd.

SPEED limit reviews have been completed on four major roads with new limits to be introduced at the children’s crossing at Smith Rd, Park Ridge South, where there has been no signs.

Motorists complained it was difficult to determine whether the unsigned speed limit was 100km/h or 50km. A traffic survey in 2018 found the average speed was 55km/h and there had been no crashes on Smith Rd in the 10 years to December 2018. Council decided to put in a 60km/h sign.

Council also decided to make the 60km/h and 70k/h signs at the children’s crossing on Browns Plains Rd, Marsden larger and move them 150m away from the crossing to give drivers more notice to slow down. Police will patrol the road near the children’s crossing at Carossa St after the signs are relocated.

Council also decided to install a 40km/h school zone in Waller Rd, Regents Park between Vansittart Rd and Renee St at Yugumbir State School. The current speed limit on Waller Rd is 60km/h.

The 60km/h speed limit on Boorah Rd at Jimboomba will go up to 70km/h.

Speed limits will also drop on a 35km stretch of Beaudesert — Beenleigh Rd starting this week.

The changes include a drop from 90km/h to 80km/h on a 2.5km section between Beaudesert — Nerang Rd and Flagstone Creek Rd at Birnam.

The new zone will include the current roadworks site which will be signed 80km/h when the road works are completed.

Other changes include from 100km/h to 90km/h from Mundoolun Connection Rd to Bullock Team Way at Tamborine and 90km/h to 80km/h from Bullock Team Way to Munstervale Road, Tamborine.

The speed will drop from 80km/h to 70km/h from Tamaree Road to Luscombe Crescent, Wolffdene and 80km/h to 70km/h from Luscombe Crescent to Stanmore, Wolffdene.

Motorists should also look out for a drop from 80km/h to 70km/h from Stanmore Road to Stubbin Street, Belivah.

The speed limit review was for safety improvements along a stretch of Beaudesert-Beenleigh Rd covering Gold Coast, Logan City and Scenic Rim.

The review looked at crash history, traffic volumes, types of vehicles, road geometry and its role in the wider road network.

The findings have been endorsed by the local speed management committee which includes representatives from Transport and Main Roads, Queensland Police Service, RACQ and the impacted local councils.

In addition to the speed limit changes, safety works will also be carried out on Beaudesert — Beenleigh Road on the highest-risk sections.

Work on Beaudesert — Beenleigh Road between Luscombe Crescent to Dunns Road at Wolffdene including shoulder widening and installation of additional safety guardrail is scheduled to be completed this month.

Construction is also under way at Birnam to clear roadside hazards, widen road shoulders and install wide centre-line treatment.’

Macalister MP Melissa McMahon said motorists would notice crews changing the signs progressively.
