Souths Logan coach Jon Buchanan believes new South Sydney signing Corey Allan would benefit from a full season of playing against men this year prior to linking with the Rabbitohs in 2019.
Allan, 19, a product of the rich Marsden State High School rugby league nursery, will leave the Brisbane Bronocs after being wooed by Souths coach Anthony Seibold.
“I know Anthony Seibold has a fair wrap on him,’’ Buchanan said.
Buchanan said Allan was a genuine talent with “silky skills and is the best right to left passer of the football that I have seen on a fullback’’.
But he said above all, Allan would benefit from playing against hardened Intrust Super Cup campaigners after playing in his age group last season and representing the Junior Kangaroos.
“With 20 games (of Intrust Super Cup) he will be better placed in 12 months time,’’ Buchanan said.
“I would have liked to have seen him with 40 games of Intrust Super Cup behind him by the time he turns 20.’’
Buchanan said importantly Allan had a good attitude. “He is a coachable kid,’’ Buchanan said.
“All the signs are he will be a pretty good footballer over the next couple of years.
