Teen treated for severe gunshot wound after mishap in garage

A teenager has been rushed to hospital after blowing off part of his hand off with a homemade gun.

A teenager has been rushed to hospital after blowing off part of his hand off with a homemade gun at a house south of Brisbane.

Police were called to the Lowanna St address at Slacks Creek just after 9.30pm Wednesday with initial reports the 17-year-old was handling the gun in the garage at the property when it went off.

He was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with what paramedics described as a severe gunshot wound to the left hand. His condition was described as stable Thursday morning.

Police are investigating the incident. Nobody has been charged.
