A father-of-three has faced sentence in court after he was kicked out of a pub for abusing staff, smashing a glass window, and fighting patrons on the street.

Shannon David Trusz, 43, appeared in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Friday, August 12, and pleaded guilty to one count of wilful damage.

The court heard he was at Ormeau’s Shearer‘s Arms Tavern on Wednesday, July 20, about 10.45pm, he and the woman he was with began arguing.

A staff member intervened only to be verbally attacked by Trusz.

The 43-year-old was promptly escorted outside, where he entered into a “physical altercation” with other patrons.

The prosecution told the court Trusz attempted to regain entry to the pub by punching and shattering a glass window next to the locked front door, the damage for which Shearer’s Arms was seeking $715 restitution.

Defence solicitor Scheryn Aspinall-Clarke said her client was struggling when he offended as his father had recently died and he was using alcohol to cope.

She told the court Trusz was a father of three teenagers and employed as an excavator operator, also asking Magistrate Mark Howden to note he had entered an early plea of guilty.

Mr Howden ordered Trusz pay a fine of $750 and restitution to the pub of $715.

Convictions were recorded.
