School holiday plans for a Greenbank family have gone up in smoke after a fire gutted their home this morning.
Police and fire investigators are still on site at a property in Amy Rd, which is one of the areas identified by the Rural Fire Brigade as a bushfire hotspot.
Flames ripped through the loungeroom and most of the house on the 4 hectare property.
Fire trucks from West Logan, Loganlea and Jimboomba rushed to the isolated site, which has no town water supply.
Logan House Fire Rescue Service Louie Naumovski said he was helping the family to find temporary accommodation and get them back on their feet.
“The house is gutted and they’ve lost pretty much everything – bad timing at the start of the school holidays.” he said.
Two guests were staying with the family of four but all were able to get out safely.
“They rushed outside after smoke alarms were activated and alerted them,” Mr Naumovski said.
“They just had to wait outside for the brigades to arrive but the tin roof looks like it is going to collapse.”
It is the first fire for the bushfire season in the area, which the Rural Firebrigade’s Peter Gurney said was earmarked as a hotspot because of the high amount of dry grass, tinder and “fuel”.
He said Logan City Council had conducted some burn-offs around Warbler Court in May but he said residents in Bellbird Dr, Woodswallow Court and Bushland Place need to be cautious.
“There are about 297 houses in that area near Spring Mountain Forest which are in the bushfire line and those areas need to start reducing clearing up and fire fuel.”
