Construction will start within months on a massive new park ’n’ ride facility at the corner of School and Underwood roads at Rochedale in Brisbane’s south.

The state and federal joint-funded project would include a new bus station, nine accessible parking bays for people with mobility issues and undercover storage for 30 bicycles.

There would also be a pedestrian overpass with lifts and stairs, “kiss ’n’ ride’’ zones, motorbike parking, signalised intersection to connect with a future extension of Gardner Rd, 24-hour CCTV surveillance and solar panels to power lighting and other infrastructure.

The new facilities were part of the $750 million Pacific Motorway upgrade between Eight Mile Plains and Daisy Hill, presently under construction, Transport Minister Mark Bailey revealed.

About 8km of the Pacific Motorway is being upgraded and widened to improve connectivity and ease congestion through the growing region.

A dedicated busway is also being extended between Eight Mile Plains and Springwood.

“The busway is already incredibly popular with commuters and will continue to grow as we

build on the existing network,’’ Mr Bailey said.

“This package of works between Eight Mile Plains and Daisy Hill is supporting 721 jobs over

the life of the program and even more local contractors, suppliers and businesses.

“I encourage locals to jump online or come along to a session to view the design.’’

Information sessions will be held at: Logan North Library, June 23, 10am-midday; Rochedale Shopping Village, June 25, 10am-1pm; Arndale Shopping Centre, June 30, 3-6pm and July 2, 10am-1pm.

State Labor Member for Springwood Mick de Brenni said the Government’s “record spend’’ on transport was “nowhere more evident than when you drive along the M1’’.

“The current section of the busway extension, which will eventually flow to Loganholme, will

deliver a further 1km of the 6.6km busway extension between Eight Mile Plains and the Springwood bus station,’’ he said.

“This is a huge win for Springwood locals, who will now have convenient and direct access

into South Bank and the City, all via public transport.

“Buses travelling to and from the new station now won’t have to compete with M1 traffic,

giving commuters greater reassurance they will arrive on time.’’
