Revamped Kooralbyn Valley golf resort tees off this weekend

One of the southeast’s favourite golfing resorts, frequented by Kerry Packer, Jason Day and Greg Norman, will re-open this weekend after a two-month hiatus due to the coronavirus.

One of the southeast’s favourite golfing resorts, once the playground for the rich and famous, will re-open this weekend after a two-month hiatus due to the coronavirus.

The Kooralbyn Valley golf course remained open since March with golfers forced to follow specific government health rules.

But its associated accommodation and hotel were closed as staff were put off and strict social distancing regulations came into play.

Resort owner Peter Huang said he used the time to overhaul the hotel and renovate.

He said the reopening would be a bitter-sweet moment after a year suffering prolonged drought followed by devastating bushfires and then the enforced COVID closure.

“During our enforced closure we have given the resort a fresh and updated renovation and look forward to welcoming players back,” he said.

“We have made many improvements.”

The historic regional landmark, once the playground of the rich and famous and Kerry Packer’s favourite resort, is the former home course for world No1 Jason Day.

Adam Scott has also frequented the course and Greg Norman was its former Pro.

Property developer Mr Huang bought the embattled facility, including the Kooralbyn International School and a retirement home, for $7 million in 2014.

It was put on the market in 2017 with a whopping $68 million price tag but was retained by Mr Huang.
