A 67-year-old woman was taken to hospital suffering shock.

An elderly man, a neighbour in the complex, was also treated for smoke inhalation from battling the blaze before fireys arrived.

Logan House Fire support Network founder Louise Naumovski said the state government needed to buy Logan its own Combined Aerial Pumping Appliance Fire Truck, instead of having to use the one stationed at Wishart.

“Logan is the state’s hotspot for structure fires so it makes sense for one of these special trucks to be stationed in the Logan Command,” he said.

“We’ve used the truck twice in Logan for two significant fires in two weeks since it was handed over.”

The new $1.8 million fire truck has a 20m ladder which gives officers better access to attack fires from above allowing them to be extinguished quicker and stop them spreading.

Mr Naumovski said it was important not to have a delay getting these vehicles to fires to contain the threat to other properties.

Emergency crews were called to the retirement village just after 11pm on Monday night after reports a fire had erupted in a garage.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said the fire spread to two nearby structures, both of which were “well-involved” in flames by the time crews arrived.

Seven fire crews were sent to the scene and managed to bring the blaze under control by 12.21am on Tuesday.
