Logan City Council has paid its respects to Windaroo man Gary Ralph who died of brain cancer late last month after surgery in Sydney forced him to quarantine in a Brisbane hotel on his return to Queensland.
Cr Laurie Koranski led the condolences and sent her wishes to Mr Ralph’s grieving partner Wendy Child, who waged a campaign to allow her husband to die at home.
The couple was finally granted the right to go home, on October 9.
Mr Ralph died on October 29.
Ms Child set up a tribute page to honour her partner and to help raise funds to research cures for the incurable disease.
So far, more than $2740 has been raised.
Mr Ralph, who was well known in Logan for his community work and his love of golf, was diagnosed with grade four glioblastoma on September 16.
“That exact moment, every single thing about our lives changed forever,” Ms Child said.
Ms Child told family and friends she would never forgive the government for the added stress caused to the family during the extremely difficult time.
Mr Ralph arrived back in Brisbane on October 6, six days after having an operation in Sydney for an aggressive brain tumour.
Australia’s leading brain surgeon Dr Charlie Teo conducted the operation to alleviate pressure on the brain.
