Ratepayers hear from prospective candidates for March election

A week after the 12 boundaries for Logan City Council were redrawn, more candidates have declared interest in running for the March election.

A week after the 12 boundaries for Logan City Council were redrawn, more candidates have declared interest in running for the March election.

Five addressed the Logan Ratepayers’ Association meeting on Saturday.

LEGAL LETTER OVER JACOB HEREMAIA FACEBOOK POST

Young candidate Jacob Heremaia read out a legal letter to him from former mayor Luke Smith’s lawyers after a Facebook Post.

He also said he was not taking donatuions as his campaign was self-funded.

Karen Murphy, the first female president of the Beenleigh-Yatala Chamber of Commerce said she had worked in real estate, had won some awards and was having her campaign launch at the Beenleigh Rum Distillery next week.

She was also involved in bringing to market one of the properties owned by former councillor Stacey McIntosh.

The crowd also heard from Division 3 prospective candidate Kerrie Nielsen who said this would be her third attempt at winning the seat.

Ms Nielsen, who works for the state government is a member of the ALP but said she would also put the community’s interests before party politics.

Teacher and prospective Division 11 candidate Natalie Willcocks also spoke.

Mayoral candidate Paul Taylor said he was not aligned with any political party even though he ran for the One Nation Party against the ALP’s Don Brown in Capalaba at the last state election.

So far, those who have expressed interest are

There is still speculation over whether seven former councillors charged with criminal offences will recontest seats. The election is on March 28.
