Prodigious Marsden State High School rugby league talent Tesi Niu has won the Mal Meninga Cup best back for his senior club, Souths Logan.

Niu, who has been signed from Marsden State High School by the Brisbane Broncos, is a thrilling fullback talent.

The year 12 student at Marsden SHS will next month tour Great Britain with the Australian schoolboys after he graduates from school.

Niu was in good company on the winners podium at the Souths Logan presentation ceremony, with another boom teenage Broncos’ player, David Fifita, named best forward.

Another two Logan City products were presented with awards from Niu’s under 18 Magpies’ side.

Waterford West State School past student Cruise Ten was named the Bill Tyquin most valuable player and Logan Brothers junior, Jett Trembath, the Beecher Larkin Memorial Cup winner.

Niu, who names electrifying fullbacks Billy Slater and Valentine Holmes as his heroes, told the Albert & Logan News last month he was excited to tour overseas with the Australian schoolboys.

“It’s been a goal to make this team since year seven and a really great bonus that this year’s team gets to travel to England to play,’’ he said.

“We’re away from home for a month, leaving just after graduation at Marsden State High School, so it will be a great experience both on and off the field.

“The chance to represent my country is something that will always be really special to me and to be able to do that in England with a new group of really talented players from different schools and clubs will be a great experience.’’

Niu is a Forest Lake Magpies rugby league junior who attended Richlands East State School as a child.

Meanwhile, Souths Logan Bill Tyquin most valuable player was, Guy Hamilton, whose younger brother is an eye-catching rugby league halfback at Marsden SHS.

The overall Souths Logan forward Brendon Gibb was the club’s Intrust Super Cup player of the year.
