LOGAN City Council’s $115,000 contribution to a feasibility study into hosting the 2032 Olympics in Queensland has already paid dividends.

Top Olympic official Thomas Bach praised the preliminary feasibility study pulled together by South East Queensland Council of Mayors.

The International Olympic Committee president said he was impressed with the detail in the report, which found more needed to be done to improve transport systems if Queensland were to win the bid.

Council allocated the money to the Southeast Queensland Council of Mayors in March to pay for planning and a report into the benefits of the region hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032.

Mr Bach praised Southeast Queensland’s early planning for a potential bid after meeting with Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner on Monday.

“I must say that we have been impressed to see how detailed the feasibility studies are already at this early stage and how well founded these studies are,” Mr Bach said. “Now it is up to the Australians to make their minds up, and to say whether they want to follow up on this project to host the Olympic Games.”

The Southeast union of councils, which includes Logan, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Redland, Moreton and Scenic Rim, has yet to secure state and federal government support for a formal bid.

Logan has participated in discussions for the feasibility study since May last year.

If the bid goes ahead, Logan would be in the running to host some events, competitors and visitors.

In March, council approved a $3.1 million upgrade to its BMX facility at Beenleigh’s Doug Larsen Park.
