NRL recruitment guru Brian Edwards has joined the staff at one of Queensland’s premier rugby league schools.

NRL recruitment guru Brian Edwards has linked with one of Queensland’s premier rugby league schools, Cameron Smith’s former place of education Marsden State High School.

Edwards, the Brisbane Broncos talent scout who previously worked the south east Queensland region for the Canberra Raiders, has joined Marsden SHS’s Sports Excellence staff.

Edwards, whose recent discovery includes Tesi Niu, will leave his role as recruitment officer for the Broncos to work with the students as a transition officer.

“He will help our Year 6 Excellence students to make the move to high school, while also assisting our senior students as they move in to full time rugby league systems,’’ said Marsden SHS principal Andrew Peach.

“There is no one in the rugby league community with his dedication and knowledge working with juniors making the move to the elite level and I’ve no doubt he’ll be of great value in supporting our staff team in their work with Logan’s finest athletes.’’

Peach said Edwards, a familiar face in the crowd at schoolboy rugby league matches, was a perfect fit for the Sports Excellence role.

“He’s such a proud Logan community member with a wealth of knowledge to help our students, staff, and parents,’’ Peach said.

“He shares our school’s commitment to supporting the kids of Logan as they pursue their dreams and is a perfect fit for our Sports Excellence programs.’’

Aside from recruiting talent from Logan to the Brisbane Broncos, he also played a key role in strengthening Marsden SHS’s partnership with Souths Logan and the High Performance Academy based at the school.

“We have a truly world class staff team, working in a facility that is second to none, and Brian is another great addition to the Makos community, enabling us to provide the very best for our local kids,” Peach said.

The quietly spoken Edwards said he was looking forward to his new role at Marsden SHS.
