A teen Logan girl stole a car and smashed her partner’s vehicle with a shovel before taking her frustration out on police.

Natalie Elizabeth Jade Duke, 19, of Kingston, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday, November 13, to unlawful use of a motor vehicle, failure to appear in accordance with undertaking and two counts of assaulting a police officer.

The court heard that on June 19 in Slacks Creek, Ms Duke kicked a police officer in the knee and attacked another officer.

Ms Duke was also found as a passenger in a stolen vehicle on May 16 last year.

Police were also called to a disturbance at hr home and saw a smashed car windscreen.

The court heard she picked up a shovel and smashed her ex-partner’s car before being arrested.

Defence lawyer David Gilmore said his client battled with mental health concerns but had never been in the courts before.

“She has no prior criminal history but she did have a suspicion she was a passenger in a stolen vehicle on this occasion,” he said.

“Ms Duke was only 18 years old at the time of the offending and has struggled with anxiety, depression and borderline personality disorder.”

Magistrate Gary Finger noted Duke’s previous lack of criminal history.

“I’ve taken into account your plea of guilty, lack of criminal history, age and character references,” he said.

Ms Duke was sentenced to 18 months’ probation. No conviction was recorded.
