A young mum and her child had a lucky escape after fire ripped through their home south of Brisbane overnight.

The house, on Greenwich Ave, Pimpama, was gutted after the blaze broke out about 11.30pm on Wednesday, January 24.

Firefighters said there were no suspicious circumstances known at this stage.

Smoke alarms woke up the mother, who was able to make a quick escape.

Fire crews took about 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze, believed to have been started by electrical items in the garage.
